The problems for Mitsubishi and its Dutch factory, NedCar, began with that common bogeyman, the Smart ForFour. At the end of ForFour production, there was no vehicle in the pipeline for Mitsubishi or then-partner DaimlerChrysler that could be built in the Dutch factory and put its 180,000 cars-per-year capacity to use. The Science Committee in the House of Representatives has a approved a bill that would prevent the Environmental Protection Agency from allowing the use of gasoline with a higher ethanol content without additional study.
According to The Detroit News, the bill was sponsored by Rep. James Sensenbrenner, R-Wisconsin and passed 19-7 along party lines after numerous groups spoke out against E15. The Alliance of Automobile Manufacturers, the American Petroleum Institute, the Friends of the Earth, the Milk Producers Council, the American Bakers Association and the National Turkey Federation all pushed for further E15 study. With the first test session of the season now under way in Jerez, Spain, the remaining teams – that is, at least, the ones that have their cars ready – are presenting their new designs for the 2012 Formula One World Championship. The latest among them: Scuderia Toro Rosso.
Long known as the Red Bull B-squad, STR positions itself as something of a training squad for new drivers moving into F1 as an extension of the company’s young driver training program. You may have thought that Sony’s Cyber-shot TX200V was the company’s most powerful point-and-shoot to date, but that’s not exactly true. The company has a Japan-only version of the TX200V called the TX300V, and it’s quite a compelling upgrade. The camera’s most apealing addition comes in the form of a wireless charging and transfer dock — it refuels your pocket snapper through inductive charging while also wirelessly transferring images to your computer using TransferJet. Sony’s push for three dimensional entertainment has inspired it to launch a series of product-loaning machines in the land of Oz. These “3D Library” kiosks, as the manufacturer is simply dubbing ‘em, will let Aussies checkout a variety of Sony’s 3D-capable products at no cost and for up to three days.
